I've lived in this country long enough not to get ticked off by everything.
And yet, staying here legally and getting a decent
job in the media is a royal pain in the ass. And you know what else
bothers me? If you are an American going and living elsewhere in the world,
you are an "expat." Nice flowing word that means you kind of EXpelled yourself
from your own country temporarily in order to EXplore the beauty of the world. You are definitely not an immigrant. I mean, who in their right mind
would want to move out of here for good?
If you are a citizen of another country who wants to live, work, learn and
explore the States, oh, well then, my friend, you are in trouble. Cause
then you are considered automatically a potential candidate for immigration. Doesn't that sound a bit, um, terrible?
Like you are a nomadic second-class citizen who is just dying to scrub
toilets, plates, to wait tables or make fattening sandwiches for the ones who
actually have a real job in another country, because let's face it, who is going
to bother to hire you at a production company where your ideas might be
fresh and different when they can afford to work on movies illegally in your
(cheap) country just because they don't need a visa and are considered
nothing but tourists?
Yeah, I am a bit bitter today...
